Call for Scores: Dawn – A collaborative concert project in celebration of the oneness of humankind

 Purpose: 

To create the space where the broadest opportunity is provided for the expression of personal and cultural experiences through music within the framework of the oneness of humankind; where the convergence of variables such as oppression, persecution, joy, astonishment, distinction, difference, etc. can be expressed through any musical genre to lift up the hearts and souls of the community and recognize the essential oneness of the human family, that the beauty of a garden is in the diversity of its flowers, plants and arrangements.

Regulations: 

  • This call is open to any composer 18 years or older, of any religious or national origin, who has completed or is currently enrolled in a music program or equivalent independent study

  • Composers may submit works in any genre such as contemporary, classical, folklore, jazz,

  • Works are to be submitted in PDF format and sent to infodawninitiative@gmail.com

  • Each composer may submit only ONE score

  • Compositions that have been performed are If you are submitting a work that has been performed, please provide information of the most recent performance.

  • Duration of work: 4-6 minutes

  • The submissions can be scored for solo, duo, trio, or any combination of the following instruments: flute, soprano, clarinet, piano, violin, cello, and fixed media (stereo)

  • Please submit audio recording or Midi realization if available

  • Deadline for submission: 29 July 2019

  • Up to 4 compositions will be selected to be performed at the Toronto Center for the Arts during the month of November 2019 in Toronto, Ontario,

  • Select composers will receive a $900, $700, $500, $400 honorarium based on audience

  • A committee of composers and performers from diverse backgrounds will select the pieces and the winning compositions will be announced in September 2019.

  • There is no submission

Please submit:

  • One score, parts and audio recording or Midi realization if available

  • Short biography (200 words)

  • Program note : Composers are required to submit a composition inspired by the theme of “Celebration of the Oneness  of Humankind”. For the compositions that involve text, any sacred or secular text (English, French or Farsi) inspired by    the theme of the concert may be If you are inspired to use a text from the writings of the Báb or Bahá’u’lláh, please visit:  www.bahai.org/library/
