Social History Society PGR call for papers

The Call for Papers for the Social History Society’s 2020 conference at Lancaster is now live.

The conference is the largest gathering of social and cultural historians in the UK and provides an invaluable opportunity to share research with members old and new. The society has a long history of supporting its postgraduate and early career members through reduced membership rates and substantial representation at its annual conference. It also offers two cash prizes, for the best paper and the best poster presented at the conference. The full details are available here.

We are delighted to be returning to Lancaster University in 2020. The university is the intellectual home of the society and has also been able to provide a very affordable accommodation package (en-suite rooms for £35 a night) for delegates! We are also offering ten bursaries of up to £200 to support the cost of registration, travel and accommodation for those whose proposals are accepted.

The conference programme is organised by eight thematic strands, ranging across time and space, from the (pre)medieval to the present. The Call for Papers invites proposals for individual papers, posters and panels on any of the strand themes. Please see the Call for Papers for more details and follow @socialhistsoc on Twitter for updates.

The conference will include a keynote lecture from Professor Martha A. Sandweiss (Princeton University) on ‘Seeing the Past: History, Photography and the American West’ and a plenary panel on ‘Public History in an era of Fake News’ featuring Professor Jo Fox (Institute of Historical Research). The full details are available on the SHS website.

Please do pass this information on to anybody else who you think may be interested. And, if you’re not already, do consider becoming a member: for just £15, you will receive access to our journal Cultural and Social History, a discounted price on selected Routledge books, and become eligible for SHS Prizes, grants and funds.
