IMPORTANT: New and cancelled CIDRAL events

Dear all,

I’m writing to confirm that, owing to the UCU strike action about to begin on Monday, the CIDRAL events that should have taken place up to and including the 4th of December will not happen. I hope to be able to reschedule the visits of Priyamvada Gopal and Tina Lupton for next semester.

However, we will still have two events in the final week of semester. The first of these I am pleased to be announcing today for the first time: Ludovic-Mohammed Zahed will give a seminar on ‘Islam and the Diversity of Gender and Sexuality’, 2-4pm on Wednesday 11th December, in the Samuel Alexander Building, A102 (see full details below). He will also be present for the launch of his book, Homosexuality, Transidentity and Islam: A Study of Scripture Confronting the Politics of Gender and Sexuality, translated by Adi Bharat, at the CIDRAL Book Launch in Brew Dog at 5pm the same day.

I am aware that the book launch clashes with the School Party that was announced just after my email went round. I hope many of you will come along to Brew Dog to congratulate your colleagues on their new publications prior to heading up to Revolution (preloading I think the young people call it).

Best wishes,

David.

CIDRAL Key Ideas Seminar: Islam and the Diversity of Gender and Sexuality

He is the author of numerous books, scholarly articles, and newspaper op-eds. He currently the rector of the Calem Institute in Marseille, France.
