Making Your Research More Reproducible

Come along to a reprohack event at the University on the 12 March organised by N8 CIR to find out how to make your research more reproducible.  ReproHacks are all about developing approaches that help everyone to conduct research in a better, more accessible and reproducible way.  Put simply the events bring together researchers, research software engineers and data scientists to reproduce papers from published scientific code and data.  You can select and submit papers of your choosing for the event so you will always be working on something relevant to your research area.

New Cutting Edge GPU Resource

Researchers at the University of Manchester will have access to a new computational resource this summer.  N8 CIR was successful in bidding for a new Tier 2 computational resource in the EPSRC Tier 2 HPC call which took place in autumn last year.

Lunch Event: Managing and sharing research data

All University researchers and interested staff are invited to join the Research Lifecycle Programme (RLP) for a lunch event, where the team will elaborate on what the future of research data management might look like and how our researchers can get involved.

The RLP has a stream of work, focusing on how to better enable researchers to share and manage research data, such as to provide researchers with access to a University data repository, and develop new ways to manage restricted data and digitise research data collections.

This event will take place on Thursday 19 March from 12:30 – 2pm.

Closing soon: Innovation Community Research Fund Competition

Applications for the Innovation Community Research Fund Competition will close on Monday 16 March.

 This competition aims to give collaborative research projects some kick-starter funding of up to £5,000. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to present their ideas on Thursday 23 April to a showcase event, which is open to researchers and staff around the University to attend.

Compute capacity and resources workshops

The Research Lifecycle Programme (RLP) holds open workshops each year to allow the research community to tell them what compute resources they need and would benefit from, so annual funds can be allocated accordingly. This funding can be used for on-site compute resources and also public Cloud (e.g. Amazon Web Services etc.).

Based on last year’s feedback, the RLP invested £260,000 into onsite hardware, including Graphic Processing Units (GPUs) and very high memory compute resources. The RLP team would like to hear from the research community again to find out what to spend this year’s funding on.

Researchers of any level are welcome to attend and this may be of particular interest to those doing computationally intensive research (e.g. modelling, simulation, data processing etc.).

Two workshops will be held and you can register to attend below:

• Wednesday 1 April – 10am – 11:30am (Roscoe Building, 1.010)
