Postdoc Appreciation Week is coming!

Postdoc Appreciation Week (20 – 24 September 2020) aims to acknowledge, recognise, and celebrate all the hard work that postdocs and researchers dedicate to research, teaching, mentoring, outreach, and so much more.

UKNPAW event – 20 September 2021, 11-12.30

UK National Postdoc Appreciation Week (UKNPAW) is organised by a group of volunteers made up of Postdocs and researcher development teams across multiple institutions. Our goal is to organise a main UK/ROI-wide free online event(s) to kickstart the week, so that all Postdocs can participate regardless of whether their institution has events in place or not. We also want to make sure that it is a celebratory and uplifting event, as Postdocs deserve to be recognised for all that they do that contributes towards academia and society in general!

This year, we want to focus on the successes that former Postdocs have achieved, regardless of whether this is in the form of academia or not. This will happen on Monday 20th September, 11am-12.30pm. We have invited 5 panellists, with a diverse range of experience (academia, science citizenship, research policy, biotech, software developer), to come and share with us their journey, tips, and advice, in the form of a moderated Q&A session. For more information and registration, please check out this website. Please use #LovePostdocs and #NPAW2021 on your social media as well!

University of Manchester Postdoc Appreciation Week – all week. Main organised event 22 September 2021 from 13:00 – circa 15.30.

The University of Manchester also started this practice in 2019, with the main university-wide event ‘Postdocs Assemble!’ winning both Elsevier’s Best New Postdoc Appreciation Week event, and the University’s Making a Difference Awards. Last year’s ‘Celebrate Diversity of Researchers’ in Manchester saw the first online event opened to University of Manchester, Salford University and MMU, continuing this annual practice of uplifting and uniting researchers from all walks of life, without boundaries.

This year, we are doing something different! For 2021, with the theme of Navigating Postdoc Life, we hope to encourage researchers to leave behind their laptop/computer screens, and join in an interactive Scavenger Hunt that will take us to landmarks of the University, and find QR codes that will highlight perks, rights, and facts of life being a Postdoc/researcher here at Manchester. Participants can choose to do this on their own time with their own team (no more than 6 people), or join in an organised and randomised team hunt (Wednesday 22 Sept, register here) to meet and network with other people across the university. There will be photo contests and a quiz to win prizes as well! Hints will be made available on the website from 20-26 September.
