British Library Doctoral Open Days: Now open for bookings

The British Library would like to disseminate information about its next series of Doctoral Open Days, aimed at first-year PhD students.

As you may recall, earlier this year we decided for the first time to offer our annual Doctoral Open Days as a series of free online webinars. Building on the success of these, and to make our Open Days more easily accessible to PhD students nationally, our 2022 events series will again be largely delivered online. We will explain the practicalities of using the Library and accessing its resources in a series of interactive webinars. This online offer will be complemented by pre-recorded content and an invitation to explore our St Pancras site at the end of the series.

The webinars will take place every Wednesday afternoon between 12 January and 2 March 2022. The series will begin with a general introduction, followed by seven additional events exploring more specific collection areas and resources.

Two practical on-site events will enable students to obtain their Reader Pass and meet fellow students and Library curators.  Included in the days will be a tour of our St Pancras building and highlights of the Library’s Collections.  These events will be open to those who have attended at least one webinar. More information will be published in due course.

We strongly recommend that all PhD students attend the first module Getting Started: Researching at the British Library on 12 January 2022. Students are then welcome to join as many of the other modules as they are interested in. All modules are free to attend. Places for the on-site events will be limited.

The complete programme, and links to register, can be found here.

With many thanks, as always, for your ongoing assistance in sharing this offer with your doctoral students,

Best wishes
