Society faces challenges in maintaining the security of energy supply, whilst decreasing global carbon impact. Studying a PhD or taught masters with the Basins Group in Manchester will give you a unique skill set to help address these issues.<\/p>\n

Our courses focus on understanding geological systems below the Earth\u2019s surface, from basin scale problems to the presence and movement of related fluids.<\/p>\n

Sedimentary and structural processes govern the way sedimentary basins fill, and understanding of these complex three dimensional systems can be usefully applied to increasing the efficiency of production of conventional and unconventional resources.<\/p>\n

The knowledge and techniques taught at Manchester are also directly applicable to developing subsurface technologies in geothermal energy, carbon capture and storage and network gas storage.<\/p>\n
