About<\/h1>\n

We distil the successful adaptations found in nature and apply these to engineering design. Our research analyses both structure and motion in organic systems, to inspire engineering solutions with improved performance and functionality over traditional approaches.<\/p>\n

This biomimetic strategy is being applied using terrestrial animals that walk, run and jump, to help us advance the state-of-the-art in agile robotics. We investigate animals that fly \u2013 birds, bats, insects and even pterosaurs \u2013 to generate novel solutions for future drone designs. We even study swimming organisms, from whales to penguins to spermatozoa, to guide us in improving the efficiency of aero- and hydrodynamic surfaces.<\/p>\n

Our biomimetics research is built on an open and collaborative approach to science, connecting with researchers from a breadth of countries, cultures and academic disciplines.<\/p>\n
