Dr Sarah Johanesen will be giving a public talk on Priestly Disguise in Elizabethan and Jacobean England at Harvington Hall on Wed 26 July 3-4.30pm, as part of their first ever History Festival.<\/p>\n

Across 17 events with top historians and authors, the Festival celebrates 100 years of the Hall being in the care of the RC Archdiocese of Birmingham. Explore Anne Boleyn and Elizabeth I\u2019s relationship, plots and disguises, turbulent times of war and peace, the nitty-gritty everyday life of the Tudors and Jacobeans and beautiful Elizabethan music.<\/p>\n

Sarah will be speaking on the priestly disguises so essential to facilitating Roman Catholic worship in the reigns of Elizabeth I and James I. Discussing how the materials and language of clothing, accessories, and personal appearance were used against Catholics by Protestants, she will also reveal how appearance became a political weapon in conflict even with fellow Catholics. \u200b<\/p>\n
