Quality and Evidence Personal Excellence Pathway (QEPEP)

The Quality and Evidence Personal Excellence Pathway (QEPEP) is an exciting opportunity to get students involved in a quality improvement project (QIP) at your practice, as well as promoting general practice as a career.

Students self-select community projects within or beyond conventional medical fields. Below are some example topic ideas, in the context of community medicine:

  • palliative care
  • cardiology
  • paediatrics
  • sports medicine
  • law and ethics
  • travel medicine
  • global health
  • arts and medicine.

What the project involves

It is optimum for the student to do 3 days of educational activities in the practice. However the timetable is negotiable between student and supervisor, dependent on the needs of the quality improvement project, allowing flexibility for all those involved.

Students will produce one of the following assignments per QEPEP module:

  • a Quality Evaluation (QE) report, for example, audit or other piece of quality improvement work
  • a lay document and associated work report e.g. a patient information leaflet

You will need to:

  • meet your student(s) at the start of the placement
  • help identify and plan a suitable project
  • Timetable project activity time, project supervision (1 hour per week) and support the student in carrying out their project
  • mark the completed project according to defined marketing criteria
  • provide feedback on attendance and engagement

We are continuing to go green!

Did you know that most quality improvement projects (QIPs) you offer will align seamlessly and naturally with sustainable healthcare principles? To help clearly identify this to the students and to showcase for your future NHS appraisals, we can help! When we gather your availability via our eForm there is a drop-down menu so supervisors can select the sustainable healthcare principles that align with your project and we highlight these to our students as “Green QEPEPs” to increase their visibility and impact.

For more background information on this, we have our own Green QEPEP “toolkit” and take a look at the website for the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare (CSH) (https://sustainablehealthcare.org.uk/).

We can provide more information on how you can decide which sustainability principles your QEPEP aligns with and how you can weave sustainability through the project.

We are looking forward to going green and hope you join us in this endeavour towards greener practice!
