Awards<\/h1>\n

The Undergraduate Student of the Year recognises a student who has made an exceptional contribution to the University, to the development of the curriculum or enhanced the student experience through peer to peer activity. They may also have displayed excellent academic achievement and\/or achievements external to the University or overcome major difficulties.<\/p>\n

Teaching Excellence Awards<\/h3>\n

These awards recognise colleagues who have demonstrated a significant and sustained commitment to teaching, learning and the student academic experience. All academic and related colleagues involved in the delivery of UG or PGT teaching or academic student support are eligible to be nominated.<\/p>\n

Winners receive a \u00a35000 grant to be used to develop teaching and learning activities or support their own career development.<\/p>\n

Submissions are sent to the Faculty, shortlisted and then submitted to an institutional panel.<\/p>\n

Once information becomes available regarding the nominations process and deadlines, this will be circulated to School Directors of Teaching and Learning and Heads of Teaching, Learning and Student Experience. (In 2018-19 the University published information about the awards process in March with a deadline for Schools to submit nominations to the Faculty by 25th April 2019.)<\/p>\n

Distinguished Achievement Awards<\/h3>\n

These awards recognise achievement in a number of areas and, in teaching and learning, including Teacher of the Year, Undergraduate Student of the Year and PGT Student of the Year.<\/p>\n

The Teacher of the Year recognises an individual whose teaching during the past year has been outstanding, has demonstrated an ability to communicate effectively and motivated students whilst showing a commitment to innovation and excellence in teaching.<\/p>\n

Schools can submit one nomination each for Teacher of the Year and one or two nominations for Undergraduate Student of the Year. These will then be considered by HTLC and\/or the Faculty Leadership Team.<\/p>\n

Prize: \u00a3100 for the winner and each of the nominees (paid for by Schools)<\/p>\n

Deadline for nominations: December<\/p>\n

The PGT Student of the Year award has similar criteria to the UG Student award.<\/p>\n

Prize: \u00a3100 and a medal presented at December graduation (paid for by Schools)<\/p>\n

Outstanding Staff Awards<\/h3>\n

These awards are student-nominated and recognise outstanding contributions in the below categories:<\/p>\n

Outstanding Teaching Award (includes TAs)
Outstanding UG Dissertation (or long essay or research project) Supervisor Award
Outstanding PGT Dissertation Supervisor Award
Outstanding Professional Services (PS) Staff Award
Outstanding Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) Award (previously \u2018Best on Blackboard\u2019 award)

Nominations are shortlisted by a small panel of colleagues from across the Faculty and winners are announced in the summer period.<\/p>\n

Humanities Innovation in Teaching Scheme (HiT)<\/h3>\n

This scheme supports innovation in teaching practice and\/or supporting the student experience.<\/p>\n

Colleagues can submit expressions of interest to secure complimentary resource and\/or funding from the Faculty Teaching, Learning and Student Experience Team to undertake new projects around three core priorities:<\/p>\n

The development of distance learning with a focus on developing online CPD
Innovation in teaching and assessment including the development of student digital skills
Initiatives that enhance student experience
Support from TLSE may be through initial consultation\/research to start a project, project management support, curriculum development support or technology-enhanced learning. Projects should provide a strong communication strategy and clearly demonstrate the intended impact.<\/p>\n
