How do political parties use Facebook at election time to extend or accelerate their reach within the electorate?\u00a0How successful are these efforts?\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

These questions are addressed in\u00a0the recently published\u00a0article \u201cFacebook affordances and citizen engagement during elections\u201d, which\u00a0can be found\u00a0here<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Authors\u00a0Karolina\u00a0Koc-Michalska, Darren\u00a0Lilleker, Tomasz Michalski, Rachel Gibson,\u00a0and Jan Zajac find that\u00a0the timing and visual content of posts are important in increasing voters\u2019 attention and that interactivity matters most.\u00a0Responsive party posts on Facebook are significantly more likely to be shared, liked, and commented on by users.\u00a0These findings enhance our understanding of the effects of social media campaigns\u00a0and provide insights for parties themselves into what makes a Facebook campaign effective, in terms of reach.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
