Web based applications

We design and develop web-based applications that make health research more accessible, engaging, and efficient.

From participant-facing tools that support data collection and intervention delivery, to clinician-facing platforms that provide oversight and analysis, our web apps are tailored to the needs of each study.

As part of the University of Manchester, we focus exclusively on digital health research, ensuring every application we build is informed by co-design with researchers, clinicians, and participants.

What we do
  • Build scalable web applications using frameworks such as Vue, designed for reliability and adaptability.
  • Co-design platforms with patients, clinicians, and researchers to ensure usability and relevance in real-world contexts.
  • Create participant-facing apps for symptom monitoring, adherence tracking, digital diaries, and intervention delivery.
  • Develop clinician-facing tools for reviewing study data, monitoring participant progress, and supporting decision-making.
  • Integrate securely with external systems such as EHRs, NHS login, and REDCap.
  • Ensure applications are accessible by design, tested to meet WCAG 2.2 AA standards with real users.

Our process

Outcomes
  • Web apps designed around the needs of both participants and clinicians.
  • Secure integration with existing NHS and research systems.
  • Enhanced participant engagement and richer study data.
  • Applications designed and tested for accessibility, meeting WCAG 2.2 AA standards.

In action

We supported the BCAN-RAY study, which is investigating breast cancer risk assessment in young women. We built a participant-facing web platform where individuals could securely register, provide health and family history information, and complete surveys.

For participants identified as at risk, the platform connected them to further clinical assessments, including mammograms and saliva samples. Participants could then log back in to view their personalised breast and ovarian cancer risk, shown as percentages compared to the national average, along with interactive graphs projecting risk over time.

The same platform also enabled clinicians to securely review participant information and follow up with those requiring further support.
