Enhanced Services<\/h1>\nWhat is the purpose of this clinic?<\/h2>\n
The Enhanced Services clinic operates predominately NHS commissioned extra services that are provided by optometrists who have undergone further professional training, enabling specialist care to be provided within a community setting.<\/p>\n
These services typically reduce the waiting time and the distance travelled by patients, in addition to reducing the pressure that hospital eye departments currently experience. Sometimes this will involve making referrals to hospital (secondary care) providers.<\/p>\n
Our Enhanced Services clinic offer GERS (glaucoma refinement), Community Urgent Eyecare Services (CUES), and pre- and post-cataract schemes. In addition to this, our Enhanced Services clinic offer private colour vision assessment.<\/p>\n
Who can be seen?<\/h2>\n
NHS Enhanced Services can be accessed by patients who have a UK-registered GP within a commissioned area.<\/p>\n
Private colour vision services are available to anyone who has had a full sight test before you can be seen in our clinic.<\/p>\n

If you have any urgent problems with your eyes, including the symptoms below, please contact us on 0161 275 5374<\/a>.<\/p>\n If this is not possible or we are unable to provide NHS Greater Manchester Community Urgent Eye Care Service (CUES), you can find a practice that can help you by going to the Primary Eyecare website and entering your postcode: Find a practice<\/a>.<\/p>\n Non-urgent appointments can be made by contacting the main optometry clinic reception.<\/p>\n Phone: 0161 306 3860<\/a> You may be asked to briefly explain the nature of your referral so the receptionist can best direct you.<\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_button button_url=”mailto:optometry.clinics@manchester.ac.uk” button_text=”Email our team” admin_label=”Button: Email our team” _builder_version=”4.16″ global_colors_info=”{}”][\/et_pb_button][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text: How much will it cost?” _builder_version=”4.27.9″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” module_alignment=”left” hover_enabled=”0″ use_border_color=”off” global_colors_info=”{}” sticky_enabled=”0″]<\/p>\n NHS Enhanced Services (GERS, CUES\/MECS, cataract (pre- and post- assessments)) are free of charge to eligible patients.<\/p>\n Private eyecare services:<\/p>\n When you arrive, one of our qualified optometrists, with up to four students in attendance, will have a short discussion with you about your eye issues.<\/p>\n They may ask about:<\/p>\n Once any necessary tests are complete, the findings will be explained to you and suitable recommendations given.<\/p>\n If onward referrals or reports are required then these will be completed by the supervisor and students.<\/p>\n Many examinations require the use of eye drops to dilate your pupils, so please ask when booking an appointment if this is likely to be required.
