About<\/h1>\n

Healthcare engineering represents a significant part of our research activity in the School of Engineering. We work in close collaboration with clinicians and biotechnology leaders to address some of the world\u2019s most challenging problems. Today, advances in medicine and healthcare require advanced technology solutions, be that computational modelling, advanced manufacturing or cellular-level engineering.<\/p>\n

Our work in healthcare engineering provides a platform for our researchers to apply fundamental theories and cutting-edge ideas to address problems of huge societal significance, including several with global reach, such as: the development of prosthetic bone implants for victims of conflict; the assessment of surgical need for patients with congenital heart disease in Africa; mitigation of impact of foot ulceration due to diabetes.<\/p>\n

We work closely with the large university hospitals on our doorstep and the interdisciplinary centres of biotechnology and medicine here at The University of Manchester. We seek to combine latest developments in material science, robotics \/ AI and computational modelling to deliver meaningful impact both locally in the Greater Manchester region and beyond.<\/p>\n
