What course did you study and when did you graduate?<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

I studied MA Philosophy at The University of Manchester, graduating in 2026. My research focused on the philosophy of mathematics, exploring the relationship between mathematics, science and reality.<\/p>\n

What made you choose to study your course at The University of Manchester?<\/b><\/p>\n

Manchester has an outstanding reputation for philosophical research and offered the opportunity to learn from academics whose work closely aligned with my interests. I was particularly drawn to the department’s strengths in analytic philosophy and the freedom to pursue independent research into questions that genuinely fascinated me.<\/p>\n

Please tell us about your job and career to date.<\/b><\/p>\n

Despite being a lawyer in a previous life, I am the founder of two educational organisations and also run several businesses centred around education, consultancy and social impact. Alongside this, I teach GCSE and A-Level Mathematics, work within educational governance and regularly speak at schools and universities on topics including education, social mobility and philosophy.<\/p>\n

What do you do in your current job?<\/b><\/p>\n

No two days are the same. As an entrepreneur, my role involves leading teams, making strategic decisions, developing initiatives that improve educational outcomes and public speaking. Running multiple businesses has reinforced something philosophy taught me early on: every decision is ultimately about people. Understanding how individuals think, what motivates them and why they hold different beliefs requires an appreciation of the philosophies and ideologies that shape human behaviour. Whether I’m leading a team, teaching mathematics or developing new projects, those philosophical foundations influence my approach every day.<\/p>\n

Your future career aspirations.<\/b><\/p>\n

I hope to continue growing my organisations while expanding my impact within education. As someone who teaches mathematics, I can also see myself moving into university lecturing in the future. At the same time, I feel I have unfinished business in academia. There are still philosophical questions I want to explore through further research, and I hope to continue contributing to the field alongside my professional career.<\/p>\n

How did your course prepare you for this job?<\/b><\/p>\n

Philosophy taught me far more than how to construct arguments. It developed my ability to think critically, evaluate evidence, communicate clearly and approach complex problems from multiple perspectives. Those skills are essential when leading organisations, making difficult decisions and working with people from different backgrounds. Above all, it taught me that understanding people often begins with understanding the ideas that shape them.<\/p>\n

Did you use any of the careers support\/resources at The University of Manchester?<\/b><\/p>\n

Admittedly, no. However, if I could go back in time I would have attended careers events and took advantage of opportunities to engage with the wider university community. While much of my career has been built by creating opportunities for myself, the University’s encouragement to think independently and pursue ambitious ideas both indirectly and directly gave me the confidence to do so.<\/p>\n

Do you have any tips or advice for offer holders?<\/b><\/p>\n

Be curious. Some of the most valuable parts of university happen outside the lecture theatre. Challenge your assumptions, speak to people with different perspectives and don’t be afraid to pursue opportunities that don’t fit a conventional path. A philosophy degree teaches you how to think; what you do with that way of thinking is entirely up to you.<\/p>\n
