Course Details<\/h3>\n

I am pursuing an MSc in Human Resource Management (International Development) at the Global Development Institute; a course focused on individual and organisational growth. While it doesn’t carry CIPD accreditation, it more than makes up for this with guest lecturers, a residential field trip involving real organisations, and a syllabus that blends theory, practice and research. The modules align closely with my career goals, and the professors bring an international perspective into every discussion.\u00a0\"\"<\/p>\n

Accommodation<\/h3>\n

As an international student living away from home for the first time, safety mattered to me, so I chose student accommodation with amenities and maintenance included. It was here that I met fellow international students who became close companions, and where I first learned to properly take care of myself. The on-site ResLife team made the transition easier.<\/p>\n

Roles of Responsibility<\/h3>\n

My Program Director nominated me as a Student Representative, liaising across all levels; supporting teachers, running surveys and focus groups, and gathering feedback from classmates. Compiling a group dossier of my peers was a personal favourite, giving me the chance to connect with each individually. As a Student Ambassador, I hosted the Master’s Expo, webinars and podcasts, and wrote blogs promoting the university internationally. Becoming a SEED Changemaker connected me with like-minded people striving to make the world better. Together, these roles taught me the value of being involved and truly heard.<\/p>\n

Resources Availed<\/h3>\n

The university’s support services have been indispensable; from the extensive online library to regular emails about events, surveys and opportunities. The Careers Cell has motivated me to pursue a job in the UK, while Study Skills sessions from the Student Support Hub were a huge help with my dissertation. Highlights included a pasta-making workshop with MasterChef winner Simon Wood, a free Women’s Self Defence class run by ResLife, affordable trips through the International Society, and career fairs that opened a window into the corporate world.<\/p>\n

Experience<\/h3>\n

Time has flown, yet I remember every moment vividly, especially the day I left home, equal parts nervous, excited and unsure I was ready. Having had a break in my education, I worried about the stress of deadlines and grading. Knowing this was my final year of study, I resolved to give it my all and make the most of student life. While a degree from a reputed institute is the ultimate goal, it’s the lessons learned outside the classroom that have shaped me most.\u00a0\"\"<\/p>\n

Challenges and Learnings<\/h3>\n

Adjusting to a different education system, and keeping pace with the growing role of AI in coursework, proved challenging; much of the learning happened independently rather than in class. I couldn’t complete my registration until arriving in the UK, though the process itself was simple once I was patient with it. Securing funds to organise class events was tough, but it sharpened my teamworking skills. While I’ve tried to seize every opportunity that comes my way, I’ve learned the real importance of prioritising.<\/p>\n

Life in Manchester<\/h3>\n

Welcome Week gave me an early glimpse into student life here, and using my student ID for discounts now feels second nature. I’ve come to see Manchester as the perfect fit for me: rich in history, vibrant in culture and food, and a unique blend of city energy and country charm.<\/p>\n

Conclusion<\/h3>\n

Looking back on this past year, I feel immense gratitude for everything I’ve experienced. I’ve grown as an individual, broadened my perspectives through conversations with people from across the globe, and even my family back home has noticed the change in me.<\/p>\n
