Rachel Redondo, a graduate of BA Linguistics and Spanish, shares with us some insights into her time at Manchester and how it has helped her career. Now working as the Digital and Operations Manager at Twenty-Two, her role involves working closely with clients to achieve the best brand image for them across their social platforms, websites, and internal teams.

Why did you originally choose to study your course at Manchester?

“I loved the cosmopolitan, multi-cultural feel to the city as well as it’s many quarters. The University of Manchester is based in a city with over 250 languages, so I knew that I was in good hands!”

Did you always know you wanted to do the career you’re in?

“Not at all!! When COVID hit my year abroad was cut short and so I had 6 months at home before finishing my final year. I helped set up my current company and never looked back!”

How did your course set you up for your career path?

“My course taught me lots about communication and building relationships with all types of people. During my year abroad/work placement I also had the chance to develop those skills further, so much so that I am still learning about them to this day!”

What was the most surprising takeaway from your course that’s helped you in later life?

“The people. I was so fortunate to have had amazing lecturers, teachers, work colleagues and course mates during my time at Manchester and I wouldn’t change it for the world.”

What advice would you give to a student looking to start your course and/or join the University?

“Be open minded! Try new modules that your not sure about, ask your lecturers those ‘silly questions’, and take every opportunity that comes your way…you won’t regret it.”
