Ahmed Mughni studied a Social Anthropology MA at UoM. He is now a Research Associate at the Department of Planning and Development of the Government of Sindh in Pakistan.\u00a0<\/h4>\n

Why did you choose to study at the University of Manchester?<\/h2>\n

I chose to study Social Anthropology at UoM because of its world-class faculty and cutting-edge research in various fields. In hindsight, I realized that Manchester is also such a vibrant city, which has shades of both the fast urban environment and beautiful natural countryside nearby!<\/p>\n

What do you do now? How did your studies at Manchester help you get your job?<\/h2>\n

Soon after graduation I started my career in research for a USAID funded project. After that ended, I taught Sociology and Social Change at a university in Pakistan. Currently, I am working as a Research Associate for the Research & Training Wing of the Planning and Development Department of the Government of Sindh. Here, I assist in formulation for the provincial government.<\/p>\n

During my studies, modules such as\u00a0\u201cAnthropology of international aid and development\u201d opened my eyes to my interest in both anthropology and the careers available in the development sector. Through my university work I also learned about medical anthropology, which is a fascinating field in which I’m considering pursuing an advanced degree.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

One of the most interesting aspects of my course was the training in analytical skills. It’s an incredibly important skill to hone and it helped me see the world from a new and different angle.<\/p>\n

What advice would you give to a student about to start a Social Anthropology MA?<\/h2>\n

Anthropology at Manchester is very interesting with its first-class faculty and diverse student body. One should participate in different events with fellow students and explore life at university to form everlasting friendships. Also, visit the serene Peak District and Alderley Edge!<\/p>\n
