Hello there! I’m Yash Baliyan, a Master\u2019s in Economics student at the University of Manchester. Today, I’m excited to share my experience as a member of the Manchester University Trading and Investment Society (MUTIS), one of the most dynamic student communities I’ve ever been a part of.<\/p>\n

Established in 2005, MUTIS currently boasts over 5000 members, making it the largest finance society at our university. With its diverse membership extending across various degree backgrounds \u2013 from STEM and Business to Economics \u2013 it brings together an amazing mix of like-minded students and professionals. But why did I, an economics student, decide to join a finance society?<\/p>\n

The answer is simple: I was intrigued by the practical, career-focused environment that MUTIS promised. Weekly meetings, high-profile events such as the Women in Finance Conference and Dare Trading Championship, along with networking opportunities with established companies were all too appealing to pass up.<\/p>\n

Since joining MUTIS in October, I’ve had the privilege of participating in several initiatives that have significantly enhanced both my financial acumen and my collaborative skills. The Private Equity Challenge was a particular highlight. In this event, I analysed Natural Drinks\u2019 financial projections and recommended changes, thereby successfully contributing to an additional projected value of \u00a34.7 million. This was not just an exercise in number-crunching but also a lesson in teamwork and effective communication.<\/p>\n

Similarly, as part of the Finance Accelerator initiative, I conducted a comprehensive analysis of a buy-side asset manager’s performance in a simulator. This project proved instrumental in increasing the portfolio value by 5.7 million dollars, thereby informing strategic investment decisions.<\/p>\n

So, what do I enjoy most about being part of MUTIS? It’s the sense of community and shared ambition. The society offers a platform where everyone is dedicated to learning and growth. It’s a space that encourages curiosity, questions, and an exchange of ideas. And, most importantly, it’s a place that respects and values every member’s contribution.<\/p>\n

For fellow Master\u2019s students, I highly recommend joining a society. It\u2019s not just about enhancing your academic and career prospects \u2013 it’s also about the friends you make, the skills you develop, and the experiences you gather along the way. Being a part of MUTIS has been a fantastic journey for me, and I can’t wait to see where it takes me next.<\/p>\n

If you’re keen on finance or interested in exploring the field, consider MUTIS. After all, where else can you enhance your financial literacy, network, and help add \u00a34.7 million to a company’s value projection in your free time? Remember, university is more than just lectures and exams; it’s also about making the most of the opportunities available to you \u2013 and joining a society like MUTIS is one of them!<\/p>\n
