When I began my academic journey at the University of Manchester, I had grand aspirations but little guidance on how to transform them into reality. I soon discovered that the university’s Careers Service would be my guiding light through the uncharted waters of career planning and professional development.

The most outstanding feature of the University’s Careers Service is their commitment to personalised, one-on-one support. It’s like having a dedicated career mentor who genuinely cares about your success. These career advisors aren’t just experts in their fields; they are compassionate and insightful professionals who helped me navigate my career path. Their guidance has been instrumental in defining and achieving my career goals.

Imagine having the ability to drop in and receive immediate feedback on your CV and cover letter without the hassle of scheduling an appointment. This unique feature distinguishes the University of Manchester’s Careers Service. The convenience of walking in and obtaining constructive feedback has been a game-changer during those crucial application periods.

The university’s career fairs have opened doors to leading employers like P&G, Unilever, Mondelez, Hilti, and Barclays. These events are invaluable for networking and gaining insights into what these companies seek in their ideal candidates.

The Alumni Careers Insight Conference is another highlight, offering a glimpse into the journeys of successful alumni from student life to professional success.

Preparing for job interviews and psychometric tests can be intimidating, but the Careers Service has your back. Workshops and events like “Get Ready for Psychometric Tests” and “A-Z Graduate Schemes” provide you with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in interviews and assessments. This preparation has been a cornerstone of my job search.

The University of Manchester’s CareerConnect platform is a treasure trove of resources. It serves as your one-stop destination for all things career-related. Whether it’s scheduling appointments with career advisors, registering for workshops, or exploring job vacancies, CareerConnect offers a wealth of opportunities that I’ve accessed time and time again.

In summary, my journey with the University of Manchester’s Careers Service has been profoundly transformative. Their personalised support, accessibility, and wealth of resources have helped mould my career aspirations and prepared me for the professional world.
