Offer holder days are an exciting milestone in your university journey. They’re your chance to step onto campus, picture yourself as a Manchester student, and decide whether this is the right place for you. Having attended offer holder days myself, I found that a little preparation and curiosity can really help you make the most of the experience. Here are my top tips to help you get the best out of your offer holder day at the University of Manchester.

Plan ahead and personalise your day

Before attending, it’s worth checking the schedule sent out by the University, as well as browsing the University website and social media channels. Alongside the mandatory sessions for your course, there are often activities and drop-in events happening across campus on the same day.

Once you know what’s on, plan your time and prioritise the activities that match your interests. Everyone’s priorities are different. You might be keen to explore accommodation, learn more about careers and employability, or find out what student societies are like. One place I would always recommend visiting is the Students’ Union. It’s a central hub of student life, and there’s often something fun going on, such as poster fairs, jewellery stalls, or even vintage sales. It’s a great way to see the creative and social side of Manchester.

Don’t be afraid to reach out and ask questions

Offer holder days are designed for you, so don’t hesitate to reach out if you feel comfortable doing so. This includes academic staffs, student ambassadors, and even other offer holders you meet throughout the day. Asking questions can really help you understand what the course is like in practice, rather than just on paper.

Chatting to current students is especially valuable. They can give you honest insights into workload, teaching styles, assessments, and what life at Manchester is really like. You might also get a feel for the social atmosphere on campus. Social life is a huge part of the university experience, so offer holder days are a great opportunity to see whether you feel comfortable and excited about the environment here.

Explore beyond your timetable

If you find yourself with some extra time between sessions, there are plenty of places on campus worth exploring. The Manchester Museum is a landmark of both the University and the city, and its collections are genuinely impressive. It’s a calm and inspiring space, and visiting it gives you a sense of the city’s and University’s history.

Campus cafés are also great places to stop by. After a busy schedule of talks and tours, sitting down with a drink can help you catch your breath while still soaking up the university atmosphere. Watching students go about their day can help you imagine what your own life here might look like.

Enjoy the green spaces

If the weather is good, I’d highly recommend taking a short walk to Whitworth Park, which is just a few minutes from the centre of campus. It’s a popular spot for students to relax, get some fresh air, and enjoy a bit of greenery. It’s a lovely reminder that studying at Manchester isn’t just about lectures and libraries, and it’s also about balance and wellbeing.

Overall, offer holder days are what you make of them. With a bit of planning, an open mind, and a willingness to explore, they can be a really enjoyable and reassuring step towards starting your journey at the University of Manchester.
