After accepting my offer to study my MSc in Business Analysis and Strategic Management at the University of Manchester, one of the first things I focused on was where I was going to live. While stressful at first, to my surprise, there were many options to choose from, especially given that I was moving from abroad.<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
The University of Manchester makes housing resources very accessible through newsletters and offer-holder sessions, which helped me narrow down the three main options. The first was the University of Manchester accommodation, which guaranteed housing for all international students. The second option was off-campus student housing complexes, of which there are many surrounding the campus. The final option, and the one I eventually chose to go with, was searching for private accommodation through estate agents.<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
I chose to go with private accommodation as it allowed me to search throughout Manchester for flats where I could live with my partner. The process involved searching on Rightmove and Zoopla for flats that met our criteria. We filtered our search based on budget, location, and specific amenities. I would reach out to the estate agents, tour the flats, and then, if I liked it, I would put in an application. After about a week or so of searching, we had an application accepted. I will say this process can be quite stressful, especially as an international student, as working with estate agents as a student with no UK income can prove to be a bit of a challenge, however it is not impossible! Options with the University of Manchester or through private student accommodations would have been easier in my opinion, but if you are willing to go through the extra effort, it can pay off.<\/div>\n

I chose a flat that was in Salford right along the river. The location is nice, as I can walk anywhere in the city centre, campus is a 30-minute walk or accessible via public transport. Given that I would not have a car in Manchester, proximity to public transport, grocery stores, and campus were the key priorities for me. Manchester and Salford have many different areas I considered, such as the Northern Quarter, Media City\/Salford Quays, and Deansgate. Every neighbourhood have different things to offer, and it was important to consider all the factors for where I wanted to live. I am very happy with where I ended up, as there are many restaurants, markets, pubs, and public spaces to go outside on a nice day. There is always something to do or somewhere to explore during the weekends. Some of my favourite things have been Campfield Market every Saturday, countless bakeries and coffee shops, some very good Sunday Roast spots, and a short walk over to the Arndale to do some shopping. Being right next to the city centre, visiting all the other neighbourhoods in Manchester has been very accessible.<\/div>\n

Talking with my course mates, everyone had their own experiences finding accommodation. You will find someone happy with their choice for all three options. It is important to consider what your priorities are when considering what is best for you.\u00a0<\/div>\n
