The problem

Staff and students are getting the  ‘Invalid or Missing State’ when loading Turnitin Assignments links.

The issue is due to changing browser security and privacy updates where third-party cookies are being blocked by recent upgrades to various browsers, including Chrome, Safari and Firefox.

The solution

Until Turnitin changes the way it works, staff should change the setting in Blackboard on the Turnitin Assignments links so they do NOT open in new window. This should fix the problem.

Instructions on how to do this are shown below.

1. Click on the chevron next to the Turnitin assignment and select Edit
   
2. Scroll to the Web link options section and change ‘Open in New Window’ to ‘No
   
   
3. Click Submit at the bottom of the page
   
4. You will see a prompt box asking if you would like to change the Turnitin submission to open in a new window; click Cancel.
   
5. You will get a confirmation of success at the top of the page.
