Curriculum enhancement

We can help you identify opportunities in your existing practice to integrate curriculum enhancements including community and belonging, digital capabilities, employability, inclusiveness, social responsibility, and sustainability. We aim to further enhance the student experience and equip students with the knowledge and skills they require for life at university and beyond.

This process encourages you to look holistically at your curriculum from different perspectives at both programme and course unit level. To support this development, we help you engage with University specialists and connect you with initiatives such as the Flexible Learning Project and the University Living Lab.

We work alongside TLSE to support curriculum developers going through the QSDE approval process.

Community & belonging

We can help you identify opportunities to nurture positive relationships within student groups, including:

  • developing ice-breaker activities
  • approaches to celebrating diversity
  • approaches to group formation and group dynamics
  • developing collaborative tasks

If you would like support with any of the above within your course unit or programme,  you can book a consultation with your school learning designer for an initial discussion on how we can best support you with your objectives.

Inclusive practice
We support staff to reflect on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in programme, unit and assessment design and to consider strategies to ensure inclusive practice is embedded throughout.

Key Considerations

  • Course content
  • Teaching approaches
  • Assessment and feedback
  • Field trips
  • Group work and group formation

Our EDI checklist is a good place to start when thinking about your teaching practice at both unit and programme level. It is also recommended for staff completing/revising unit specification forms as EDI now forms part of the approval process.

If you would like support with this, please book a consultation for an initial discussion.

Resources

Together with the TLSE team we have developed guidance and resources to support this.

Social responsibility

Through our workshops we encourage you to include opportunities for your students to participate in activities that promote social responsibility. These activities can be specific to the programme and may focus on environmental, social or ethical activities. More broadly, we signpost existing opportunities at UoM–for example Stellify, volunteering opportunities and relevant UCIL units–and work with you to embed these in your curriculum.

Sustainability

Through our Curriculum Design workshops we endeavour to support you in embedding sustainability in both the content of your programmes and course units, and in your approaches to teaching, learning, and assessment.

We have also developed independent resources to help you get started in this area. See our Sustainability in the curriculum page for some key prompts and questions to support you in identifying current practice and considerations for development. The site also includes general information around sustainability in education and links to relevant events.

Supporting International Students

Please see our short guide on Rethinking Support for International students for suggestions on how we can rethink approaches to teaching and learning, challenge assumptions and overcome barriers. This is based on a workshop facilitated by Jenna Mittlemeier (MIE). See link in further resources below.
The guide also includes link to further resources and readings.
