is widely regarded to be propelled by nine pillars:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Additive manufacturing<\/li>\n<li>AI and data analytics<\/li>\n<li>Augmented reality<\/li>\n<li>Autonomous robots<\/li>\n<li>Cloud computing<\/li>\n<li>Cyber security<\/li>\n<li>Internet of things<\/li>\n<li>Simulation<\/li>\n<li>System integration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These pillars cut across a number of themes that define The University of Manchester\u2019s Industry 4.0 capabilities and research interests, listed below:<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_accordion use_border_color=&#8221;off&#8221; In fact, these technologies are necessary but not sufficient to implement the vision of Industry 4.0. Policy makers, funding agencies and governments recognise that new approaches are needed to building and living in cities that make them sustainable, resilient and inclusive.<\/p>\n<p>Research, technology and data can play a critical role through developing more effective services, engaging citizens in more responsive and creative ways, and enhancing decision-making. Enabling technologies include advanced robots, additive manufacturing, advanced laser processes, and IoT.
