We recently welcomed Prof Caetano Reis e Sousa from The Francis Crick Institute for the second in an ongoing series of “Inflammatory Remarks” seminars, sponsored by the British Society of Immunology (BSI) and Lydia Becker Institute for Immunology and Inflammation. This series aims to highlight cutting edge research from world leaders in emerging cross-disciplinary areas of research such as cancer immunology, neuroimmune crosstalk, immunometabolism, epigenetics and more.

Prof Reis e Sousa spoke about the role of a critical myeloid immune cell population, dendritic cells, in driving immune responses against infections and tumors. Using innovative tools to track and image the diversity of immune responses in health and disease – as well as multidisciplinary approaches to dissect how the immune system senses danger in order to mount protective immune responses, Prof Reis e Sousa gave a tour de force seminar covering everything from the evolution of the immune system in basic organisms through to the implications for a range of clinical pathologies.
