The Becker’s Immuno-matrix<\/a> Branch Lead Professor Judi Allen<\/a> has been elected as a Fellow of the highly prestigious Royal Society<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Judi joins eighty researchers, innovators and communicators from around the world who have been elected as the newest Fellows of the Royal Society, the\u00a0UK<\/span>\u2019s\u00a0national academy of sciences<\/span>\u00a0and the oldest science academy in continuous existence.<\/p>\n

Sir Adrian Smith<\/span>, President of\u00a0the Royal Society<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>said: \u201cI am delighted to welcome our newest cohort of Fellows. These individuals have pushed forward the boundaries of their respective fields and had a beneficial influence on the world beyond.<\/p>\n

Judi is an infectious disease immunologist with a particular interest in type 2 immunity, the protective response mounted to infection with helminths. Integrating models of tissue damage and helminth infection, her work has helped reveal that type 2 immunity acts not only to limit helminth infection but is important in the repair of damaged tissue and regulation of the extra-cellular matrix. With a major focus on macrophages, her lab continues to reveal unique macrophage functions in the context of helminth infection, allergy, and fibrosis.<\/p>\n

In addition to prestigious funding awards from the Medical Research Council UK and the Wellcome Trust, Judi is a member of EMBO and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology, the Royal Society of Edinburgh, and the Academy of Medical Sciences. She is also an honorary professor at the University of Edinburgh<\/p>\n
