But, it might be helpful for predicting whether someone with mild or moderate hearing loss will benefit from hearing aids.

This study aims to learn whether a test of extended high-frequency hearing can predict how well someone does on a “speech-in-noise test” after they are fitted with hearing aids.

This study will help us decide if it is worth including the extended high-frequency hearing test in everyday hearing aid assessments. We will also learn whether the extended high-frequency hearing test is accurate, quick, and acceptable to people.

Take part in the study

If you meet all the criteria outlined below, you may be eligible to take part.

You must:

· be aged 18 years or older;

· be a native English speaker;

· think (or know) you have a mild or moderate hearing loss in both ears (we will check this);

· not currently have any ear disease or disorder.

If you agree to take part in this study, a registered audiologist will examine your ears and remove earwax if required. They will then assess your hearing using several different tests. For one of the tests, you will be fitted with digital hearing aids.

Download the participant information sheet (PIS) for more detailed information about the study and what taking part would mean for you. It is important that you read this document in full before making a decision about whether or not to participate.

Take part

If you would like to take part, please click on the link (below) to register your interest. The researcher will then get in touch to arrange the test session.

Register your interest in participating

Get in touch

If you have any questions at all or would like to receive a hard copy of the Participant Information Sheet, please contact Melanie Lough (PhD Student and registered Audiologist).

Email: melanie.lough@postgrad.manchester.ac.uk

This study is funded by NIHR Manchester Biomedical Research Centre (reference NIHR203308).

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_accordion admin_label=”Accordion: Studies” _builder_version=”3.17.6″ /][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text: Get in touch” _builder_version=”3.17.6″]

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column_inner][/et_pb_row_inner][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_section][et_pb_section bb_built=”1″ admin_label=”Connect Title” module_class=”footer-section” _builder_version=”3.0.90″ background_color=”#1d1d1d” custom_padding=”0px||0px|” prev_background_color=”#ffffff” global_module=”380″][et_pb_row admin_label=”row” global_parent=”380″ parallax_method_1=”off” parallax_method_2=”off” parallax_method_3=”off” module_id=”footer-row” _builder_version=”3.0.89″ locked=”off”][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]

Manchester Centre for Audiology and Deafness (ManCAD) Extended high-frequency hearing study Being able to predict whether someone with mild or moderate hearing loss will benefit from hearing aids would be useful.
