title=&#8221;Manchester Vision Network 2023 Research Showcase and Networking Event&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h3>Bridging the gap between basic and clinical research<\/h3>\n<p>We are pleased to announce the sixth Manchester Vision Network (MVN) Research Showcase. This annual event provides a multidisciplinary forum for clinicians, researchers and technology developers, interested in ophthalmic and vision science.<\/p>\n<p>The morning session will consist of oral and poster presentations where contributions on any topic are welcome. This year the keynote speaker will be <a href=\"https:\/\/optometry.iu.edu\/people-directory\/miller-donald.html\">Professor Donald Miller<\/a> of Indiana University, who will talk about his pioneering adaptive optics optical coherence tomography work at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.millerimaginglab.org\/\">Miller Lab<\/a>. The talk will be delivered via Zoom. A second keynote will be delivered by this year\u2019s winner of the Janus Kulikowski Award.<\/p>\n<p>The afternoon session will be in the format of an away day\/networking event, bringing the MVN Community together from across the University and NHS Trust. The focus will be on identifying key areas\/themes for inter-disciplinary collaboration and outlining the next steps in securing the necessary funding. Please use the subject line \u2018<strong>MVN abstract submission<\/strong>\u2019. Please indicate your preference for a poster or oral presentation. The final decision on the mode of presentation will be made by the scientific programme committee.<\/p>\n<p>Please follow the instructions below to ensure that your abstract is submitted correctly. All submissions should include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>abstract title \u2013 limited to 20 words;<\/li>\n<li>the names of the authors, with the presenting author indicated;<\/li>\n<li>a brief affiliation of each author.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The text of each abstract is limited to a total of 250 words and should include the following sections.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Background<\/li>\n<li>Methods<\/li>\n<li>Results<\/li>\n<li>Significance<\/li>\n<li>A figure illustrating the main findings (optional)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>There will be prizes of \u00a3100 for both the best oral presentation and the best poster presentation of the morning session.&nbsp;Please consider the multidisciplinary nature of the audience to ensure that your abstract and oral or poster presentation is accessible to everyone.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Poster presentations will be in A0 portrait format.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item _builder_version=&#8221;3.17.6&#8243; title=&#8221;Janus Kulikowski Award 2023&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p>The Manchester Vision Network is pleased to welcome nominations for the annual award for the <strong>most outstanding research output from a researcher working within the Network.<\/strong> The award of \u00a3250 is open to postgraduate students, post-doctoral researchers, and research fellows. The research output will usually be in the form of a published academic paper, but other equivalent outputs will be considered. The Award made in 2023 will be for outputs <strong>published in the 2022 calendar year<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Nominations for the award can be made by the researcher themselves, or by a colleague on their behalf. The nomination should include a copy of the paper or other output, plus a short commentary describing the particular contribution of the nominee, the reasons for the output being particularly significant, and where the work fits within the career progression of the nominee.<\/p>\n<p>Please send nominations to <a href=\"mailto:chris.dickinson@manchester.ac.uk\">chris.dickinson@manchester.ac.uk<\/a> by 19<sup>th<\/sup> May 2023. The winner will be notified by 19<sup>th<\/sup> June 2023 and will be required to deliver a keynote lecture at the MVN Annual Meeting on 19<sup>th<\/sup> July 2023.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>About&nbsp;Professor Janus Kulikowski<\/h3>\n<p>The annual award is named in honour of Professor Janus Kulikowski, an internationally renowned vision scientist who spent much of his career working in Manchester. Beginning in what was then the Department of Ophthalmic Optics at UMIST, through to his continuing research activity, despite his \u2018retirement\u2019 in 2002, in the Division of Pharmacy and Optometry.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Kulikowski helped to put Manchester Vision Sciences on the world stage. He is most famous for contributing to the understanding of how the brain analyses spatial information.
