Themed Case Discussion Facilitator<\/h1>\n

Themed Case Discussion (TCD) sessions are delivered in small groups of four to ten students. They are facilitated by the same GP during the Year 4 GP block.<\/p>\n

The teaching sessions are based on the flipped classroom theory, where students complete online learning earlier in the week so they can apply this learning to a higher degree in structured teaching.<\/p>\n

Tutors teach in various locations in the North-West, North Wales and the Isle of Man.<\/p>\n

What the TCDs involve<\/h2>\n

General practice is at the core of teaching. The sessions are based on learning through authentic GP cases and build on the student’s online learning.<\/p>\n

There are interactive tasks, such as role play and prescribing, and also protected time for clinical supervision.<\/p>\n

Key areas that are covered include ethics and law, prescribing, clinical reasoning, behaviour change, patient safety and communication skills.<\/p>\n

Dates for 2026-27<\/h2>\n

There are eight GP blocks to teach per year, between September and May. Each GP block lasts four weeks and tutors will teach for three hours and 15 minutes on a Friday morning.<\/p>\n

Payment<\/h2>\n

You will be paid at the commensurate hourly rate as an employee of The University of Manchester.<\/p>\n
