The academic appeals procedure may be used by students who wish to appeal against a final decision of a Board of Examiners or student progress board which affects a student’s academic status or progress in the University. An appeal is a way of asking the University to review a recent decision by a board. In the first instance, students should aim to resolve appeals informally. However, if the informal route does not provide you with a just solution, you can submit a formal appeal.<\/p>\n
It is important to remember that students cannot challenge a mark or an academic decision based on reasons around dissatisfaction with the mark awarded or on the assumption that a better mark should have been achieved. For example, being disappointed with your mark is not grounds for appeal. Similarly, appeals cannot be made because you disagree with a mark given as students are not allowed to challenge academic judgement.\u00a0<\/p>\n

If you are granted a \u2018compensated pass\u2019 by the Exam Board, this will be communicated to you by email following the release of your results. You will not be required to submit any further work and you are not permitted to complete a reassessment.<\/p>\n The compensation zone refers to the overall grade for a course unit and not the grade for individual pieces of work. The compensation zone is 40%-49%. <\/p>\n Compensated credit retains the original failed mark, and this is used in the weighted average for the calculation of the final classification\/award. A reassessment is a second attempt at passing the course.<\/p>\n Reassessment papers must be submitted on the due date for submission. If the reassessment is submitted late, a mark of zero will be awarded.
