This review indicates that the menstrual phase is associated with a lower risk of suicide when compared to the other two phases of the menstrual cycle.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007\/s11920-021-01286-0\">Premenstrual exacerbations of mood disorders: findings and knowledge gaps<\/a> (Current Psychiatry Reports, 2021)<br \/>This review examines premenstrual exacerbations of mood disorders, associated diagnostic issues, epidemiology, underlying mechanisms and treatment. The review concludes that there is a lack of research on premenstrual exacerbations of mood disorders, especially on underlying mechanisms and treatments.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cambridge.org\/core\/journals\/psychological-medicine\/article\/suicidal-behaviour-and-the-menstrual-cycle\/9B661E3C6053D7F3D300DD64691D32C2\">Suicidal behaviour and the menstrual cycle<\/a> (Psychological Medicine, 2006)<br \/>This systematic review examines 44 studies on suicidal behaviour and phases of the menstrual cycle. There appears to be an association between the menstrual cycle and non-fatal suicidal behaviours.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/journals.lww.com\/hrpjournal\/fulltext\/2022\/03000\/psychiatric_symptoms_across_the_menstrual_cycle_in.2.aspx\">Psychiatric symptoms across the menstrual cycle in adult women: a comprehensive review<\/a> (Harvard Review of Psychiatry, 2022)<br \/>This review synthesises the literature examining psychiatric symptoms across the menstrual cycle in adult women. There is evidence of increases in psychosis, mania, depression, suicide\/suicide attempts and alcohol use during the pre-menstrual and menstrual phases.
