In this before-and-after study, we examined the relationship between service provision and suicide rates in mental health services in England.<\/p>\n
Analysis of service delivery data and organisational factors in relation to suicide rates showed several service changes related to ward safety, improved community services, staff training, and implementation of policy and guidance were associated with lower suicide rates after the introduction of these changes. Some wider organisational factors such as staff turnover were also related to suicide rates.<\/p>\n
Our findings suggest aspects of service provision may influence suicide rates, but the wider organisational context in which service changes are made may be important too.<\/p>\n
