There are few large-scale studies on suicide and ethnicity to inform policy and practice. In this retrospective observational cohort study, suicide rates among minority ethnic patients with mental illness in England and Wales were examined and the effects of differential help-seeking were investigated.<\/p>\n
Findings showed significantly lower suicide rates among patients from minority ethnic backgrounds than for White patients. Suicide rates between<\/em> minority ethnic groups, however, varied, as did social and clinical characteristics.<\/p>\n We suggest clinicians and the services in which they work should be aware of the
