The Centre for New Writing has organised the annual schools\u2019 poetry competition for the past 3 years, working in collaboration with local high schools. The Centre has established a sustainable model, to ensure this competition can be an annual initiative run in partnership with the Centre, students and local schools. <\/p>\n

The Centre for New Writing ran the poetry competition once again in 2020 in partnership with Creative Manchester, working with three schools within the Education and Leadership Trust: Whalley Range High School, Levenshulme High School and East Manchester Academy. If possible and if adequate funding is secured from through channels, the Centre\u00a0aims to extend the project to additional schools in the Greater Manchester in the future. <\/p>\n

CNW PhD students launched the competition in each school, to coincide with World Poetry Day (21 March 2020) The students will run poetry clinics at the three schools (dates to be confirmed) where pupils will bring drafts of their poems in small groups for our students to advise on, with a view to revising and improving their work, introducing them to new creative practice, and raising the standard of the competition entries they are writing.<\/p>\n

The deadline for the competition will be in June 2020 and the winning entries will be announced at a Celebration Day at the beginning of July 2020. The shortlisted pupils from each of the three schools will be invited to perform their work at the event.<\/span><\/p>\n
