SALC welcome events<\/b><\/h1>\n

Commuter Welcome Event<\/b><\/p>\n

Come along to the commuter event to<\/span>\u00a0get the chance to meet other commuter students in the same school, studying similar courses to you. You will also be offered the opportunity to have a tour of Sam Alex, your home SALC building.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When and Where?<\/b><\/p>\n

Friday 15th Sept, 1 – 3 pm at the SALC Student Hub (beside the Lime Cafe), Lower Ground, Samuel Alexander Building. Building number 67 on the <\/span>campus map<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

PGT International Welcome Event<\/b><\/p>\n

Our PGT International Welcome Event is specially designed for all incoming postgraduate students in the School of Arts, Languages, and Cultures. Join us for afternoon tea and a chance to hear from key support services.<\/span><\/p>\n

When and Where?<\/b><\/p>\n

Friday 22nd Sept, 2 – 4 pm at Christie\u2019s Bistro. Building number 58 on the <\/span>campus map<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Wellbeing Walk<\/b><\/p>\n

We will be running 2 wellbeing walks – like a campus tour but we will prioritise visiting some quiet and peaceful locations where you can go to relax, on campus.<\/span><\/p>\n

Attend whichever one best suits your availability – they will both be the same!<\/span><\/p>\n

When and Where?<\/b><\/p>\n

Session 1: Tuesday 19th Sept, 1- 2pm<\/span><\/p>\n

Session 2: Thursday 21st Sept, 3:30 – 4:30pm<\/span><\/p>\n

Freshers and Societies Fairs<\/b><\/h1>\n

Starting your journey at the University of Manchester is an exciting adventure filled with new opportunities, friendships waiting to be made, and experiences that will shape your future.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Amidst all the excitement, there is one event every student is looking forward to: the Freshers’ Fair!<\/span><\/p>\n

This is not just an event; it’s a warm invitation to immerse yourself in the university’s vibrant community. Plus, there’ll be loads of fun activities and freebies given out at the stalls so make sure you visit!<\/span><\/p>\n

When and Where?<\/b><\/p>\n

This year, the fairs will be held at Manchester Academy 1. This is building number 74 on the <\/span>campus map<\/span><\/a> and next to the Students\u2019 Union building.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Freshers fair<\/span><\/a>: 18th and 19th of Sept<\/span><\/p>\n

Societies fair<\/span><\/a>: 20th and 21st of Sept<\/span><\/p>\n

The fair is filled with booths and stalls representing various student organisations and societies.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As a new student, it might initially seem overwhelming, but don’t worry; we also have quiet time from 10 -10:30 am each day at the Freshers Fair, and 10 – 11 am each day at the Societies Fair. The staff can also provide earplugs at the entrance so please ask them if you require these.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Societies of the University of Manchester<\/b><\/p>\n

The university has over 400 student-run societies dedicated to a wide range of interests and activities. Whether you’re passionate about science, arts, sports, or social causes, there is a society that aligns with your interests and will allow you to foster friendships.<\/span><\/p>\n

We’ve also come up with some tips you should know before joining the Freshers Fair<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Prioritise Your Interests: <\/b>Take some time to think about your interests and goals. Are you passionate about a particular hobby, cause, or academic subject? Knowing your interests will help you prioritise which societies to explore.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Be open-minded: <\/b>Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and explore a few societies that you might not have considered initially. You might discover new interests and meet people from different backgrounds.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Create a Schedule: <\/b>Time can fly by quickly in the hustle and bustle of the fair. Create a rough plan of which societies you want to visit so you can ensure you don’t miss out on societies that matter most to you.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Network and Connect: <\/b>Take the time to connect with society members and ask questions. Inquire about membership fees, any special events they have planned, the benefits of joining the society, etc.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Stay Informed: <\/b>After the Freshers’ Fair, stay informed about the societies you’ve joined or are interested in. Many societies communicate through social media, newsletters, or group chats. Consider getting involved right from the start by attending their first meetings or events to establish yourself within the group and build connections with fellow members.<\/span><\/li>\n
  6. Join Multiple Societies: <\/b>Don’t feel like you need to limit yourself to just one society. If you have multiple interests, consider joining multiple societies. This can diversify your experiences and help you meet a broader range of people.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Benefits of Joining Societies<\/b><\/p>\n

    Now, let’s delve into three main benefits of joining societies while you’re studying at the University of Manchester.<\/span><\/p>\n

    1. Building Friendships and a Sense of Belonging<\/b>: University can be a big place, and joining a society is an excellent way to meet like-minded individuals who share your interests. In my first year, I <\/span>made<\/span>\u00a0many new friends through K-pop Society and International Society. So you should check out the societies you would like to join.<\/span><\/li>\n
    2. Developing Valuable Skills<\/b>: Societies often provide opportunities to develop crucial life skills for your future career pursuits. I joined some societies as an executive committee member last year and this helped me to connect with industry professionals, land <\/span>internships<\/span>\u00a0and job opportunities.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
    3. Enhancing the University Experience<\/b>: Joining a society can transform your university experience from ordinary to extraordinary. It adds depth and richness to your time on campus, allowing you to create lasting memories and leave a positive mark on the student community.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      In summary, please do remember that university is not just about academia. It’s a holistic experience, and societies play a pivotal role in shaping your time here. The Freshers’ Fair is just the beginning\u2014your university story is waiting to be written. Embrace the journey, make the most of your opportunities, and enjoy every moment!<\/p>\n
