Work programme 4 focuses on social care with those experiencing mental health problems and research evidencing social care delivery to this group.<\/p>\n

Projects in this programme are looking to investigate and evidence mental health social care.\u00a0 Mental health social care\u00a0\u201cempowers people living with mental illness, people experiencing mental distress, their unpaid carers, and local communities. It seeks to enable people to lead fulfilling and independent lives by providing information, advice and offering practical, personalised support with everyday activities. It facilitates agency and the ability to access a life with purpose, meaning and a voice as an active citizen \u2013 not just the absence of symptoms. Through working in and with communities, mental health social care helps to develop their capacity to be supportive, resilient and emotionally healthy\u201d<\/p>\n

Multiple methods are used across this programme, including, interviews, literature reviews, and examination of existing data. This programme is also supported by the\u00a0NIHR Mental Health Social Care Incubator<\/a>\u00a0which undertakes activities to help people with diverse research, lived and practice experience develop their engagement with mental health social care research and practice. This includes supporting people and groups, such as those from the third sector or in statutory practice, to develop their research ideas.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
