Social Science students often wonder what they can do with their degree. If you are an\u00a0undergraduate Social Science student at the University of Manchester you will be studying\u00a0Politics and International Relations, Criminology, Social Statistics, Sociology, Social\u00a0Anthropology or a combination of these on the BA in Social Sciences degree. Or you may\u00a0be studying Law, or for a BA in Politics, Philosophy and Economics (PPE) or be on the BA\u00a0Economics and Social Studies degree. If you are a graduate student, you will be specialising in\u00a0your area of interest.<\/p>\n

You will read a lot. Be introduced to many theories.\u00a0\u00a0Have opportunity to discuss ideas and be challenged\u00a0on your thinking. You may have some practical lab\u00a0classes in data analysis.<\/p>\n

You may also have the opportunity to put your\u00a0learning into practice through a work placement or internship or a year-long Professional Year of\u00a0Experience, or spend time studying abroad.<\/p>\n

During your time at The University of Manchester\u00a0you may join a society or undertake volunteering\u00a0or engage with extra-curricular activity. You will\u00a0probably have a constant eye on how your degree\u00a0could lead to employment or further study in an
area that you are motivated by and interested in. But\u00a0you may not know what a degree in social science\u00a0can lead to and be curious about what type of career\u00a0you can progress into.<\/p>\n

Some of you might be interested in following a\u00a0career in a policy-related area. Others will have\u00a0no idea what this entails, especially if you are not\u00a0connected with people who work in this space.<\/p>\n

This booklet will help you find out what a graduate\u00a0policy-related career can look like for someone\u00a0studying social science at The University of\u00a0Manchester. By gathering stories from those\u00a0who have gone before you, the purpose of this\u00a0publication is to show you what is possible.<\/p>\n

All of the people included here are former social\u00a0science students. One of the most important aspects\u00a0of this collection of alumni voices is to provide\u00a0information that will help you see the relevance of\u00a0your degree to a role in policy.<\/p>\n
