\"\"The absolute highlight of my internship was visiting the Civil Justice Centre as part of the Manchester Free Legal Help programme. It reminded me that although people working in the legal field deal with disputes day in and day out, every piece of advice that a client receives can change the course of their lives drastically. It was empowering to use my skills and knowledge as a law student to help people who would not have been able to receive legal guidance elsewhere. The work at the Justice Hub makes justice more accessible to the vulnerable communities who require it most.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve worked on a variety of cases in a range of areas, from dealing with a parking ticket, family disputes, to preparing a claim in the employment tribunal. No two cases were completely the same, so it was refreshing to research on different aspects of the law for our advice.<\/p>\n

\"\"Hello! I\u2019m Anna, a final year law student who, alongside the others, have spent the last eight weeks working as a Justice Hub Intern. By allowing us to provide free legal advice to members of the public, this internship exposed us to the shocking reality of access to justice and highlighting how important Pro-Bono and Student-Led clinics are.<\/p>\n

During the eight weeks, we worked on 19 legal advice centre cases. These cases spanned a range of sectors: employment, family, small claims, housing, and wills & probate.\u00a0 This hands-on experience allowed us to gain deeper understandings into areas of law that we have not had the chance to study before.\u00a0 In particular, this opportunity has taught me the valuable skill of learning how to communicate complex concepts to clients who have little to no legal knowledge so they can fully understand their position and what options are available to them going forward.<\/p>\n

This experience has taught me so many valuable skills that I can take forward into a career in law, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to work at the Justice Hub.<\/p>\n

\"\"Hi, I\u2019m Rebekah and I took part in the eight week internship at the Justice Hub after completing my second year of my law degree. Throughout the internship I worked on advising real clients through the LAC, sat in on legal advice clinics lead by lawyers and signposting the public to legal services. My legal research skills have improved greatly throughout the last eight weeks.<\/p>\n

One project we worked on which stood out to me was an application and presentation for the upcoming Economic and Social Research Council Festival. The Justice Hub were lucky enough to be granted funding to put together an event in collaboration with the Greater Manchester Law Centre and Manchester Metropolitan University. We worked on creating a presentation appropriate for carers of people living with dementia, to help educate them on their legal rights.<\/p>\n

This project stood out to me due to the impact on the community as a whole. Legal advice which is easy to access and understand is a valuable resource for carers and will hopefully help many individuals and provide them with peace of mind at a challenging time.<\/p>\n

\"\"Hi, I\u2019m Ray, a final year law student, and I was part of the eight-week Justice Hub Internship experience over the summer. My main duties involved advising clients under the supervision of qualified solicitors by taking on Legal Advice Centre (LAC) cases in areas such as Employment, Housing, Will and Probate, Family and Small Claims as well as helping manage the Manchester Free Legal Help (MFLH) Clinics and getting involved with various internal projects and administrative tasks.<\/p>\n

Throughout the experience I have gained valuable connections with solicitors and practical experience in managing cases which will improve my career prospects after graduation. Working alongside the Justice Hub staff and signposting members of the public to other free legal services has made me more aware of the need for pro bono student-led clinics and services. Therefore, I am very grateful to have been able to participate in this scheme and use my knowledge for the benefit of individuals who cannot afford legal services.<\/p>\n
