Work programme 4

Mental health social care

Work programme 4 focuses on social care with those experiencing mental health problems and research evidencing social care delivery to this group.

Projects

Background

Projects in this programme are looking to investigate how marginalised groups can engage with mainstream social care services, and also evaluate more specialist, tailored opportunities for support.  Projects also investigate new approaches to engaging the public and the voluntary and community sectors in care, its evaluation and in innovative ways to promote studies and in knowledge transfer.

We are also considering how social care services respond to the needs of these groups to mitigate inequalities in access and provision.

This programme also includes the evaluation of sources of support that lay outside the mainstream social care system.

Aims

We aim to look at how and why people may become marginalised from services and what the barriers and challenges are for them. Projects include how to address this by developing interventions and tailoring support around people’s needs.  We are also investigating how the public and underserved groups could be better engaged with Public Participation, Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) as part of the research process.

What we are doing

Multiple methods are used in these projects including, interviews, literature reviews, and examination of existing data.
