Research opportunities

We are interested to receive applications from ambitious individuals keen to pursue research interests in Thermofluids at The University of Manchester in fields including:

  • Development of an integrated fluid structure interaction finite-volume solver, for unsteady, non-isothermal turbulent flows.
  • Experimental investigation of rotating blade cooling flows.
  • Development of multi-scale models of turbulence for non-equilibrium flows.
  • Experimental investigation of simplified natural convection loops.
  • Analytical wall functions suitable for the computation of time dependent turbulent flows.
  • RANS models for: the computation of blade cooling; heat and fluid flow computations through porous media; simulations of forced and natural convection in high-thermal-conductivity liquid metals; simulations of forced and natural convection in low-thermal-conductivity liquids; conjugate heat transfer.
  • The investigation of natural convection in liquids with volumetric heating.
  • Experimental investigation of internal forced and mixed convection under non-uniform heating conditions.
