""At the beginning of May we welcomed Prof Raymond Agius for a talk on COVID in an occupational setting as part of our Seminar Series. Raymond retired as director of the Centre for Occupational and Environmental Health at the University of Manchester in 2017, having been Professor and Director of the Centre at the University, as well as honorary consultant at the Manchester University Hospitals since 2001.

Prof Agius has been active in researching, publishing and lecturing about COVID-19. During this talk he explored the challenges of worker protection during the pandemic. The talk discussed the impacts of the first wave and how we could use these lessons to further protect workers. Prof Agius also discussed PPE, the evidence and need for more protective guidance to control airborne transmission of the virus, and issues with supply and demand. The talk ended with an excellent discussion including the risks to ethnic minority healthcare workers in the UK, frontline supermarket workers and the use of test & trace.

Raymond sends his best wishes to all THOR reporters, COEH students and staff.

His publications including the most recent ones regarding Covid-19 can be found through his Google Scholar profile.

He can be contacted through his ‘doctors’ email address: RMAgius@doctors.org.uk

This talk was part of our exclusive seminar series which is accessible to all THOR reporters. THOR reporters can view a recording of this seminar via the THOR login page.
