Research upskilling a workforce to deliver inclusive, accessible psychological support after stroke. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_slide][\/et_pb_fullwidth_slider][\/et_pb_section][et_pb_section bb_built=”1″ _builder_version=”3.0.47″ prev_background_color=”#000000″ next_background_color=”#1d1d1d”][et_pb_row admin_label=”row” parallax_method_1=”off” parallax_method_2=”off” parallax_method_3=”off” _builder_version=”3.0.47″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat”][et_pb_column type=”1_5″][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”3_5″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Spacer” _builder_version=”3.17.6″]<\/p>\n <\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”Intro” _builder_version=”3.17.6″]<\/p>\n WAterS-2 is a research study that developed and tested an accessible psychological support programme for stroke survivors, considering ‘real-world’ implementation.<\/span><\/p>\n In previous research (WAterS-1), we collaborated with stroke survivors to co-produce a psychological support programme, and found it could be successfully delivered and was also highly valued. We co-developed WAterS-2 to reach more stroke survivors, including those often overlooked in healthcare and research.<\/p>\n The study has now been completed. Our findings show that trained NHS staff, including peer support workers with lived experience of stroke, can deliver psychological support based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and that stroke survivors value this support.<\/p>\n WAterS-2 was funded by the Stroke Association and represents a partnership between The University of Manchester, the University of Nottingham, Northern Care Alliance, and others.\u202f\u202f<\/p>\n Watch a video explaining why we did the WAterS-2 study, what the programme involved, what we found and what happens next.<\/p>\n
