We’re planning a series of events for DNA Day 2020, the anniversary of Crick & Watson’s paper in Nature describing the double helix structure of DNA. It is also 30 years since the beginning of the Human Genome Project. Events will take place all over Manchester and should be a lot of fun for all ages.

Hi, we would like to be involved in DNA day in April next year if possible? Apologies for the delay in responding, but some of us have been on annual leave.
Together with Cold Star Media (Richard Evans) and the University of Salford (Ric Michael), we have been running a series of immersive theatre events (Aeon) around the science fiction scenario of gene editing in humans. The stories are based around the concept of using heavily gene edited ‘people’ as an experimental tool. I have pasted the link to a short video which will give you a flavour of the story. We have run these events as episodes during Manchester Science Festival over the last few years, and will run the next one in March for British Science Week.
We were thinking that a discussion around gene editing might fit well with DNA day? We have also hosted panel events around gene editing and are currently recording a series of podcasts to complement the creation of the storyline. The project is led by Richard Evans, with the media production led by Ric Michael. Myself and Professor David Robertson from the University of Manchester consult on the scientific content.
It would be good to discuss with you what type of event you are looking for, to see if we can be involved.
Many thanks,
Jo Pennock
