Information for parents
Infant male circumcision for religious or cultural reasons, rather than for health reasons, is not generally provided by the NHS.
Most of these procedures are undertaken by private providers in community settings. Because circumcision is an operation, it is important that you ensure the following if you are seeking a circumcision for your infant son:
- the operation is performed in clean and sterile conditions;
- there is adequate pain relief for your son;
- the operation is performed by a trained professional who can treat any complications;
- appropriate aftercare is provided by the professional.
More information can be found in our patient leaflet.
