The fourth webinar of our Autumn Series will take place on 10 December from 11:00 – 12:00 p.m on Microsoft Teams

Social media, AI and social care research: what comes next?

A critical look at how we share mental health social care research, how it has changed, and where it may be by 2030 by André Tomlin, Co-founder of The Mental Elf.

How does mental health social care research reach the people who could use it? For a while, the answer seemed to be social media. Now the platforms have split up, attention is harder to win, and AI tools are starting to sit between research and its readers.

In this one-hour session, André Tomlin (co-founder of The Mental Elf) will give a short talk on where knowledge mobilisation stands today, how it has changed in recent years, and where it might go over the next five. He’ll look at what social media and AI do well and what they get wrong, and why trust and relationships still matter more than any one channel.

This will be an interactive webinar. We’ll use live polls and open discussion, and we want to hear from people working in practice as well as from researchers.

What we’ll cover

  • What knowledge mobilisation looks like in mental health social care today
  • How social media for research has changed, from Twitter’s peak to today’s split across platforms
  • What AI summaries, search and chatbots might mean for how practitioners find evidence
  • The risks: errors, lost nuance, and research that gets left out
  • What you can do differently, whether you produce research or use it
