Our journey so far

Working with patients, carers, and other interested members of the public is central to our RAPID-RT programme.

Since we started this project in 2022, we have run a programme of involvement and engagement events to help us shape our research, so it matches the needs of our patients.

We work with Vocal, part of Manchester Foundation Trust, which connects people with health research.

Our patient and public team members

Patient co-applicants

Brian and Leila are patient co-applicants. They helped us first secure funding for this project. Both Brian and Leila supported our patient and public engagement events alongside Hannah at Vocal. They also meet with our research team at least every two months. They co-design and support our Patient Advisory Group, which advises on all aspects of the programme.

Patient Advisory Group

This brings together people from across Greater Manchester. They share a wide range of experiences and views. They help to review our ideas, show us where public involvement matters most, and check that all information for patients is clear and easy to use.

“My own experiences with radiotherapy, combined with my background in science and teaching, mean that I have a lot to contribute to the RAPID-RT project.

“I am an advocate for patients going through cancer treatment – providing a patient voice to researchers and helping to ensure scientific language is clear and accessible for patients.”
