THOR-ROI

THOR-ROI is based in the Republic of Ireland and comprises four surveillance schemes collecting data on work-related illness.

Currently, between 10 and 30 physicians report incident cases to each scheme. Since 2005, a total of 2,669 cases have been reported to the four schemes in THOR-ROI. 

SWORD-ROI – Surveillance of Work-related and Occupational Respiratory Disease

SWORD-ROI has been collecting data on occupational respiratory diseases including occupational asthma, lung cancer and pneumoconiosis since 2005.

Who can join?

To become a SWORD reporter, you must be a consultant, associate specialist or speciality doctor in respiratory medicine, based in the Republic of Ireland.

Trainee physicians are also able to report, provided they are endorsed by a qualified and named respiratory physician.

Your reporting options

Reporting is done online only. You will report throughout the year, reporting cases for each month.

Online reporting of occupational cases is done via a secure web form. You will have your own account for completing this form.

You will receive a reporting email, which includes your username and password, at the beginning of every month.

EPIDERM-ROI – The Occupational Skin Disease Surveillance

EPIDERM-ROI has been collecting data on occupational skin diseases and the agents that cause them since 2005.

Who can join?

To become an EPIDERM reporter, you must be a consultant, associate specialist or speciality doctor in dermatology, based in the Republic of Ireland.

Trainee physicians are also able to report, provided they are endorsed by a qualified and named dermatology physician.

Reporting is done online only. You will report throughout the year, reporting cases for each month.

Online reporting of occupational cases is done via a secure web form. You will have your own account for completing this form.

OPRA-ROI – Occupational Physicians Reporting Activity

OPRA-ROI gives a broad picture of occupational disease nationwide and has been collecting data since 2007.

The scheme incorporates all categories of work-related ill-health including respiratory, skin, musculoskeletal, hearing and mental ill-health.

Who can join?

You must be an occupational physician with AFOM/MFOM or higher qualifications, and be based in the Republic of Ireland.

Trainee physicians are also able to report, provided they are supervised by an occupational physician with AFOM/MFOM or higher qualifications.

Reporting is done online only. You will report throughout the year, reporting cases for each month.

Online reporting of occupational cases is done via a secure web form. You will have your own account for completing this form.

You will receive a reporting email, which includes your username and password, at the beginning of every month.

THOR-GP in the ROI – The Health and Occupation Research network in General Practice

THOR-GP in the ROI has been collecting data on patients with occupational disease seen by GPs with training in occupational medicine since 2015.

This scheme allows us to build a picture of occupational disease and will include patients who do not have access to occupational health providers through their workplace. Like OPRA, the scheme incorporates all categories of work-related ill health.

Who can join?

You must be a general practitioner with a formal qualification in occupational medicine (D Occ Med, AFOM or MFOM), based in the Republic of Ireland.

Your reporting options

Reporting is done online only. You will report for one randomly allocated month per year.

You must only report cases seen in your general practice clinic.

Online reporting of occupational cases is done via a secure web form. You will have your own account for completing this form.

You will receive a reporting email, which includes your username and password, at the beginning of your randomly allocated month.
