EPSRC Global Challenges Research Fund – Workshop on The Southeast Asian Haze (2017)

The southeast Asian haze in a yearly phenomenon that sees parts of Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia engulfed in smog. Our workshop on the Southeast Asian Haze attracted not only academic researchers in this field, but also government research centres to engage with this problem and develop new solutions.

Recent work involves the deployment of air quality sensors both on-ground and in aerial devices to monitor this environmental issue, and provide options to manage its impact on societies in the region. Our ambition is to utilise the adept plume sensing ability of animals to develop advanced methods of tracking sources of aerial pollution.

Thailand Science and Technology Fair 2016

On behalf of the British Council we were invited to exhibit our latest research on aerial robots. We were kindly welcomed by an audience of all generations and background: from primary school engineers of the future, to technologists, to senior politicians. Within the exhibition we conducted live demonstrations of our aerial robots to inspire the next generation of roboticists.

RoboShop: A Workshop for Research into Aerial and Terrestrial Robotics (2014)

We conducted the very first Newton Fund Researcher Links Workshop. Our hands-on event provided new skills and networking opportunities to early career researchers from UK and Thailand. The workshop resulted in new bilateral collaborations, with cross disciplinary research at their core. The workshop has led to a lasting relationship between Manchester and universities in Thailand that has fostered new research and teaching projects.
